Totem Forge went on sale for the first time at Main Quest Con 2026 on 12–13 September. Every totem we brought found a new table before the doors closed, on both days. Thank you to everyone who stopped by Booth 70, played with the demo set, and took a totem home.

Built by a player, for players

Totem Forge started at our own game table, born from the wish to swap a hero's face mid-session without repainting anything. Every part is made in-house, from the electronics and app to the hand-painted 3D-printed bodies, by players who actually roll the dice.

05 · FAQ

Does it need charging?
Not really. The screen itself needs no battery: e-ink holds the image physically, so the portrait stays forever without power. A small replaceable CR927 battery powers only the LED light effects, and lasts several months for normal use.
Does the screen really stay on all the time?
Yes. That's the magic of e-ink: the image is physically held by the display, so it's always visible. No backlight, no sleep mode, no power used.
Which games does it work with?
Any tabletop that uses tokens or miniatures. The 1-inch square footprint matches D&D and Pathfinder grids and blends with standard minis, so you can mix collections freely.
Where does the art come from?
Anywhere you like: import commissioned art or your own drawings, share any image straight to the app, or use our ready-made art packs tuned for e-ink.
Which images can it show?
Any image. The 88 × 184 pixel screen has four inks: black, white, red and yellow. Other colours are converted to these four with a smart dithering algorithm that blends them into shading. Try it with your own pictures in the web app: the preview shows exactly how the totem will look.
Do I need the app to play?
Only to change what's on the screen: dock the totem on its base and connect to your phone via USB. During play the totem is fully standalone, and the portrait stays on without a phone nearby.
Which devices does the app run on?
The app is free for Android on Google Play. On a PC or Mac, the web app runs in Chrome or Edge with the base plugged in over USB; bases from the first batch need a one-time firmware update for it. iPhone isn't supported yet.
How do I update my base?
Plug the base into a PC or Mac and open the firmware updater in Google Chrome. It checks your base and updates it only if needed, in about a minute.
How is it shipped?
Each totem is assembled and tested in our workshop, then shipped tracked and padded. See the listing for current shipping regions and times.
